Madison Maternity Session at the River with a Radiant Mother / Wisconsin

2020 was certainly an interesting year for Photographers. We had to have flexibility in our schedules to cancel and reschedule shoots when it was safe to do so. We also had to learn new ways to communicate with our clients because we couldn’t physically go up to them and move their hands or faces. It was challenging, but we found a way.

This radiant pregnant mother (of now 4) did incredibly well with little instruction. She seemed to be comfortable with her body and in tune with her baby. She was a natural, and I could tell that this little baby girl was already so loved.

The warmth from the sun brought out mama’s glow even more; we couldn’t have asked for a better evening. The river water felt soothing (and a bit chilly by the end of the night), and gave some much needed relief from the humidity. Back and forth on the sand we walked, and I’ll tell you that I was more out of breath than she was!

Maternity sessions are some of my absolute favorite to do. There are moments of quiet where mama can feel her baby moving, and it’s a wonderful feeling in water especially. There are also moments of laughter, shared stories of birth and parenting, as well as reflection. What an amazing thing, to grow a human.

If you are interested in booking breastfeeding portraits, you can take a look here at one of my favorite sessions. Having a collection of these images to look back on is so special, and the memories of that time come flooding back.
